The first generation of handheld pico projectors was launched in mid-to-late 2008 through early 2009. Now we are starting to see a wave of second generation pocket projectors being launched, such as the WowWee Swivel Projector.

This second wave of micro projectors features laser-based visual drivers, which couple red, green and blue lasers into a single module together with a mirror based (MEM) system to provide a clear, bright and automatically focused laser projection.

Some of the second generation hand held multi-media pico projectors use DLP ( Digital Light Processing) technology rather than LCD (liquid crystal diode) technology. And here are five reasons why DLP Projectors fare better than LCD Projectors:

  • DLP projectors do not have filters (therefore lower maintenance costs)
  • DLP projectors have more brilliant color ( up to six colors processed compared to LCD’s three)
  • DLP results in greater contrast ratios (black really is black and white really is white) and greater picture reliability (no faded or yellow images).
  • DLP projectors are faster than LCD, and DLP-projected videos do not blur.
  • DLP  projectors use a single chip, making the units more compact and lighter in weight.  The end result is a clear, high contrast image with crisp, accurate color.

We can’t say enough good things about the WowWee Cinemin Swivel DLP Projector.  It is compact, sturdy, and delivers just what you would expect from WowWee – a quality product that won’t disappoint.
